The flock undulates separates, reforms and swoops. Feathers brush the dusk. Birds lift together as if thrilled by night’s approach then descend to roost.

Unexpected Haiku-esque 3rd January

Snow flakes from black sky race through the headlight beam like small shooting stars. A light dusting lies whitening the dark pavement like caster sugar. The driveway at home has a darker snow free patch where his car should be.

Hiaku-esque 22nd December

The snow capped beech hedge makes a new horizon line against pewter skies. The dull gray blanket cuts out the mid-day light flattening landscape. Cat yeowls again for yet more drinking water his puddles are iced.
